Who would have thought that pain could be a good thing! No pain, no gain, right?
In order to heal, you MUST feel the pain.
Think about a physical wound. I don't know about you, but my mom taught me to keep the band-aid off as much as possible and allow it to be exposed to fresh air in order to heal faster.
Personal healing is as painful, if not more so, than the original trauma that caused the wound. Most people choose to medicate or bandage the wound in order to escape the pain. We all know what those bandages are -- alcohol, drugs, sexual addictions, fantasies, making money, shopping, food, etc. Basically, anything that causes a numbness to the pain and an escape from the reality of it. Sadly, another thing that happens to so many who stay on the pain rollercoaster is they continue to do the same things over and over as a result of the guilt and shame caused by the original offense. Thus creating layers of pain, guilt and shame that eventually run so deep you have no clue how to dig your way out. Honestly, you can't! On your own, it is impossible. It's something that can ONLY be done through the mercy, grace, forgiveness and unconditional love of our Father.
If you truly want to heal, you must stay away from all bandaids and allow the pain to draw you to the Father. In His presence, healing takes place. The true healing that allows you to move forward with a life free of guilt, shame, unforgiveness, anger, bitterness and all the strongholds that go along with holding onto the pain.
I want to heal, therefore, I want to feel the pain
After a lifetime of bandaging my wounds, it's finally time. Time to expose them, feel the pain and allow God to heal my deepest wounds so that I can be made whole and help someone else. There are times that this process will make you feel close to death, In reality, that is because you are at death's door...death to flesh, death to sin, death to the heartache and pain that has kept you paralyzed most of your life. Death to the guilt and shame that have kept you in this cycle of sin. It's a good kind of death because it leads to life.
I hope this encourages you to allow God to expose your wounds so they can finally heal. It's as simple as asking Him to come into the deepest parts of your heart and heal the wounds once and for all so you can be made healthy and whole.
